About the Artist

Jessica is an artist and ceramicist based in her home town of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. Jessica graduated from Barnsley College in 2023 with a degree in Fine Art Practice; prior to this she studied at Batley School of Art. Jessica's interest in ceramics began in 2014, when she undertook classes with James Oughtibridge. In 2018 Jessica took part in a project with the Bankfield Museum, Halifax where her artwork 'Little Miss Jessica Brown's Shoe' was displayed for six months. It was then displayed for a further six months in Kirklees College's Waterfront building, Huddersfield.

In 2021 Jessica was shortlisted and then commended in the Cooper Gallery's Sadler Award with her  sculpture 'Barn Owl In Flight', which was displayed in the gallery for three months. In 2023 two of Jessica's pieces were again shortlisted in the Sadler Award – 'From the Depths' and 'Pipes of Anxiety'.

Jessica's work is influenced by nature, especially animals, as well as her experience of having autistic spectrum disorder. Much of Jessica's work is ceramic sculpture and pottery but she also has an interest in felting and photography. Artists who have influenced her include Simon Griffiths, Brendan Hesmondhalgh and glass artist Raven Skyriver.
